  • About the Edition

As the African nation of Bwalo prepares for The Big Day--the only day in the year the ailing King talks to his subjects--we meet five very different people: Charlie, a curious boy with a dangerous dictaphone habit, eavesdrops on the eccentric guests of the Mirage Hotel. Sean, an Irishman who"s given his heart (and the best part of his liver) to Bwalo, struggles to write the great African novel--if only his crazed fiancée and fierce thirst would stop distracting him. Josef, the mythmaker and kingmaker who paved the way for Tafumo"s rise to power, starts to hear the ominous rattle of skeletons in his closet. Hope, the nurse caring for the King, keeps the old man alive, maintaining the façade of the powerful ruler as she mourns her own broken dreams. And in the countdown to the Big Day, storm clouds gather as a petty criminal, Jack, smuggles something into Bwalo--specifically to the Mirage Hotel--that will change the lives of all of them forever.

The structure of his second novel Please Do Not Disturb, five characters’ alternating first person narratives, is perfectly suited to the audio format. Add a cast of talented, and appropriately accented, audiobook narrators and the result is something that transcends the written word. Read full review Please do not disturb book.

This plot for Do Not Disturb is an interesting one. Angel is a journalist who has had a rough childhood, particularly since her father abandoned her and her mother when she was small.

Hes become a well-known artist and people have dubbed him The Artist of the Heart, his outward appearance being one of a doting family man,/5. 'Do Not Disturb' is Claire Douglas's fourth novel and after completely devouring 'Last Seen Alive' (LSA) in and it featuring in my Top Twenty Favourites in an end-of-year list, I was eager to read this to see exactly how it compared to her previous books.

Although it didn't disappoint /5. Please Do Not Disturb is a funny, disturbing, and deeply affecting novel of power, corruption, and innocence in colonial Africa, by Robert Glancy, the author of Terms & Conditions.

Please Do Not Disturb  Synopsis/5. A gripping and beautifully observed novel of power, corruption and innocence, Please Do Not Disturb is the funny, disturbing and deeply affecting new book by the author of Terms & Conditions Charlie, a curious boy with a dangerous dictaphone habit, eavesdrops on the eccentric guests of the Mirage Hotel, as the African nation of Bwalo prepares for the annual appearance of its Glorious 5/5(1).

Though it sounds otherwise, this is not an attempt to run down the book. DND is superbly paced with some lovely characters. The author makes no attempt at being realistic in her narrative of a young woman's fight to protect her family's hospitality bu Tilly Bagshawe's 'Do Not Disturb' is like the junk food binge one has after days of healthy eating - totally trashy while being thoroughly satisfying!/5.

Whilst Do Not Disturb is an action packed family drama with enough twists and turns to prove enjoyable it is also a little far-fetched with many of the eventual revelations eminently guessable well before midway thanks to some heavy-handed clues and hence I could never fully invest in the novel/5(58).

Published by Bloomsbury ininspired by my childhood in Malawi, Please Do Not Disturb follows five very different people as they prepare for The Big Day - the only day in the year when their ailing King comes out to talk to his people. Please Do Not Disturb puts us in the mind of five of its characters in the days leading up to The Big Day and is set in Bwalo under the great King Tafumo’s rule.

Charlie is a curious child born to parents from the UK but raised under the dictatorship, and loyalty to Tafumo is all he knows.
